Whichever genius that thought of combining Peanut Butter and Beer deserves an award. Or a knighthood. Or at the very least a hug, because this is wonderful. I’ve made it clear in the past what a huge fan of peanut butter I am, so when I was in my local beer shop and I saw that there was a Peanut Butter Milk Stout, I had to get it. And, boy, I was not disappointed.
A caveat with this beer is that it’s not going to be to everyone’s tastes. If you don’t like Peanut Butter, then you probably won’t enjoy this beer, though it does have plenty of other flavours going for it. But if you do, well, you’re in for a treat. It’s a very dark beer, to the point where it’s black, but the texture belies it’s dark colour as it’s a light and sweet affair which has a wonderful aroma of peanut butter and molasses. These flavours follow through in the tasting as you get a big hit of peanut butter at first, which brings with it a sweet chocolatey flavour that reminds me of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, before you get the bitterness that you’d associate with a stout with a slight hint of treacle that stops the beer from being too sweet or cloying.
It really is a wonderfully made beer which will definitely appeal to peanut butter lovers, but also to those who are up for trying something new and different. For me, personally, it’s up there with my favourite beers because it’s managed to incorporate one of my favourite items of food in such a way that doesn’t reduce it to just a gimmick, but a great beer to grace any serious beer lovers fridge.
Peanut Butter and Beer. Does it get any better?
